The extensive spa and wellness facilities are certainly a major draw to this hotel, for both local and overseas visitors (it’s only a 15 minute drive from London Heathrow Airport). It won “best new spa” in the 2022 Good Spa Guide Awards. And it’s easy to see why. The spa is spread out over 2,500 square meters and features a 20 meter indoor pool and an incredible outdoor heated hydrotherapy vitality pool. There’s also a sauna, steam room, Japanese foot bath, a Himalayan salt room, a cryotherapy chamber, 18 treatment rooms and a gym. The spa also has a highly advanced 4D body scanner and offers bespoke health assessments (such as cardiac stress tests) that are followed by an evaluation and proposed treatment plan led by a team of specialised wellness experts.

The food and beverage offering here is excellent with seven restaurants and bars including a tea lounge, specialty dining restaurant, champagne bar, gin bar, library lounge, wellness café and an all-day dining restaurant. The 1215 restaurant, named after the historic signing of the Magna Carta nearby, serves Modern British cuisine, using locally grown produce from The Royal Farms, Windsor artisans and the hotel’s kitchen gardens.

The 1215 Bar adjacent is a great spot for before or after dinner cocktails and in warmer months opens onto a lovely outdoor terrace. Moreish is the more casual all day restaurant where breakfast is also served. Schroders’ Botanicals Bar offers a wide range of local and international gins. The Orchid Tea Room is a charming setting for a regal afternoon tea. The Library Club is used for daytime meetings and private events and in the evening is another lounge for drinks. Greens Café is the wellbeing restaurant beside the spa, with salads and snacks.

The Long Walk, the pathway leading to Windsor Castle is 2 1/2 miles long.

For hikers and walkers, there’s plenty on the hotel’s doorstep. Cycling is also an option and the hotel offers bicycles to guests. Nearby is the 4,800 acre Windsor Great Park with its historical monuments and ancient forests. Or venture to Runnymede, the vast meadow (now a National Trust property) where the Magna Carta, the document that formed the basis of modern democracy was signed in 1215 by King John and his Barons.

New for summer 2023 will be a number of treetop suites discreetly hidden in the woods near the hotel. Designed by the world’s leading treehouse company, Blue Forest, the treehouses, clad in Western Red Cedar and made from Douglas Fir timber, feature two en-suite bedrooms, a living room with a wood burner and kitchenette and a private hot tub on the terrace.
