Delta And Hertz Upgrade The Airline And Car Rental Perks Game
Starting today, Delta SkyMiles members, and especially those with Medallion elite status, are poised to earn some extra perks. It involves earning more miles for car rentals and more perks both when renting cars or when flying.
More mileage earning based on spend

Similar to the way Delta awards elite status flyers in the air (more miles per dollar spent, the higher the elite status tier), those that rent a car with Hertz can earn SkyMiles based on their Delta Medallion tier.
Diamond Medallion members will now earn eight miles per dollar spent. Platinum Medallion members earn seven; Gold Medallion members earn six; Silver Medallion members earn five; and general program members earn four miles per dollar spent.
Previously, renters earned a flat rate based on the number of days of their rental and their elite status tier. Under this new program, most people will earn more miles with a Hertz rental, and potentially a lot more for renting a luxury car for several days. Like when flying Delta, the number of SkyMiles you earn from the Hertz partnership will depend on the cost.

Medallion members will not receive elite status with Hertz Gold Plus Rewards. The instant upgrade for Delta Diamond and Platinum Medallion members is for the President’s Circle tier. Gold and Silver Medallion members receive Five Star status.
If you already have The Platinum Card from American Express or the Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card, then you are already eligible for President’s Circle, the top tier Hertz status. If not, Delta’s top tier elite status can get you there. President’s Circle includes car upgrades and the ability to skip lines at the counter and head straight for the car. When returning the vehicle, a similarly expedited process takes place.
With top Hertz elite status, renters can walk directly to their car without stopping at the counter.

In 2021, United Airlines cut a similar elite status partnership it had with Hertz awarding President’s Circle status to its top-tier Premier 1K and Premier Platinum members. Lower tiers received Five Star status. For United flyers that miss that benefit, they can now find it at Delta with a higher mileage-earning opportunity to go along with it.
