Ford has recalled 462,000 vehicles worldwide (382,000 in the U.S.) because of a video output failure that prevents the rearview camera image from displaying on the dashboard. According to a report from Ford, there have been 17 crashes “minor accidents allegedly resulting from blue screen symptoms,” but is not aware of any reported injuries or fatalities related to the issue. The recall is an expansion and replacement of a 2021 recall of 228,000 vehicles of a similar issue.
According to Reuters, the NHTSA contacted Ford after they heard reports about a “blue image” on the rear camera display after the 2021 recall was completed. Ford then started an internal investigation on the issue and subsequently released this recall. Late last year, Ford Broncos were recalled when the rearview camera image on some vehicles continued to be displayed on the dashboard even after the vehicle was switched out of the reverse position, distracting drivers and potentially leading to accidents.

What should you do if your Ford was recalled?
According to the official NHTSA statement, dealers will update the image processing module software free of charge. Vehicles previously updated under the previous recall will also need the new update. Owners can expect a notice to be mailed by Feb. 20, 2023.
