    This is misleading. It overlooks what happens to stored fat after eating.

    Fat is not “stored” statically, there’s a continual bidirectional exchange between bloodstream and fat cells to keep some level of lipids available in the bloodstream for use during cell repair (this is how the body “uses” stored fat to begin with). The same ongoing cell repair that consumes lipids that have entered your bloodtream from the digestive system also consumes them from the fat-cell/bloodstream exchange (there being no important chemical difference, the cells consuming it don’t “know” or care where it came from). The more of that need that is served by lipids entering from the digestive system, the less is drawn from stored fat.

    There are other differences between different sources of energy. In particular, long term exposure to excess sugar drives up insulin output and increases the risk of type 2 diabetes just as nutritionally poor food generally puts your physical health at risk generally.

    That you can’t exercise your way out of a bad diet is, of course, true.
