visceral reaction to something doesn't mean it's because it feels threatening to our beliefs. it may be because it's wrong, pathological and toxic. I have a visceral reaction of hatred and anger towards communism, its ideas and practice, not because it somehow threatens my ideals but because it is evil. Also, if you don't believe in being right, you can't defend it and sacrifice what often needs to be sacrificed to preserve or protect what is right. Sorry, Doc, on this one I strongly disagree.
Oh and the internet is more than just a tool – it's an environment that is a happy accident in its fundamental difference to the physical world humans are used to. We should use it to develop and get used to new mental and other models. I definitely agree with Doc's question: What if the Internet does not persist as an environmental condition? It would be a tragedy for both for the humankind and the individual.
