Last weekend I managed to be away from my computer for most of it. This is right and proper because it meant I was having fun offline meeting people and having geeky conversations. And good food.
It was marvellous to meet Geoff Arnold finally, after being a fan of his mother, Lorna Arnold. She is the official historian of the British nuclear weapons programmes. She is also one of the most amazing and inspiring people I have ever known, so I try to visit her in Oxford as often as I can.
Geoff works at Amazon.com in Seattle, so I learnt much about scale and servers, which I found a lot more interesting than it sounds. There was more than geeking out – we also remembered one year anniversary of Alec’s accident and his recovery.
