Another of Hugh’s spot-on masterpieces:
It resonates as last weekend I was fuming over a flash site that left me frustrated and incredulous because of its slowness, non-usability and clunkiness. I am sure it has cost the company a fortune. It has that smug look of an agency well paid. I only got sucked into user hostile vortex because I was actually interested in the product. Well, not any more.

Entirely Flash-driven sites are a nightmare. Very few people manage to use Flash in a way that improves the user experience instead of pissing everyone off.

It’s not a flash driven site at all…there is a flash banner and that’s all. The application to create the watch is in Java. For information, this site won the award in 2004 of the best swiss web site.
Personnaly i like the site and their watches

Oh well, Java then. And it still sucks.

You are part of the 2% who don’t have a browser that support Java application, so….the question would be. Does your computer sucks?

Oh, I have a browser that supports Java alright (the best Firefox money can get, dahling), it’s just that the site is badly designed and very user unfriendly. No awards can remedy that.

@Math: I don’t know if you are seeing a different website to me, but when I right-click on the “Create A Man’s Watch” Link, it (rudely) opens-up a full-screen popup page laden with slow-moving animated graphics, and if you right-click on *that* page it will tell you:
About OpenLaszlo
About Adobe FlashPlayer9
…so maybe there’s a teeny bit of Java in there, or maybe in the backend – I dunno – but there is certainly a honking great pile of flash in the user-interface somewhere, but it’s both rude, and a pain to navigate.
As for a award for best Swiss website, well maybe it’s pretty but it’s sure as hell not practical. Funny, that’s not what I expect from the Swiss.

I think mentioning awards in support of arguing that a website is not rubbish should be the new Godwin’s Law…
